Promoting Strong, Healthy and Safe Communities Scrutiny Committee.

1 September 2008

Personalisation - Putting People First.

Report of Corporate Director, Adult and Community Services.

Purpose of the Report

Members of the Safe and Strong Communities Scrutiny Committee have requested an update on the Government’s agenda for the transformation of adult Social Care.

A presentation will be made to members, on the first part of this work which will outline the key drivers behind this agenda, the intended outcomes of this change in philosophy, and the challenges and building blocks that will have to be in place for it to be truly transformational in County Durham.

Members should note that this work is also likely to be the subject of further reports to other committees in the future and members may like to consider how they would prefer to be updated as part of the scrutiny function as this work progresses.

The second part of the transformation agenda will become clear in spring 2009, when the Government produces a green paper on the future funding of social care, which is the subject of consultation at the moment.

Under this item the sub-committee will also receive a Presentation by Phil Maylan, Personalisation Development Manager
