1. To provide Members of the New Durham County Council with details of the work undertaken by Overview and Scrutiny in 2007/2008. The year end report covers the following areas:
· Cross Cutting Working Groups
· Light Touch Reviews
· Budget
o Securing One-Off Funding to Support Service Improvements
· Joint Health Overview and Scrutiny
· Evaluation of Overview and Scrutiny in County Durham
· Regional Scrutiny
· The Future
Information
2. The ‘Cross Cutting’ Working Group reports and the ‘Light Touch’ Review Working Group reports will be shared with the New Durham County Council via the Overview and Scrutiny Management Committee of the Council.
3. In addition, the Overview and Scrutiny Work Programme in the New Durham County Council will reflect issues raised in the various reports and build into the process systematic review mechanisms in order to measure progress in relation to the findings and recommendations stated in the Working Group and Light Touch Review Reports.
Recommendation
4. That the New Durham County Council note the contents of the Overview and Scrutiny Year End Report for 2007/2008.
5. That the ‘Cross Cutting’ Working Group Reports and the ‘Light Touch’ Review Reports be considered by the Overview and Scrutiny Management Committee at a future meeting, to be determined and thereafter be submitted for consideration by the Cabinet Committee.
