Performance Update ~
1
st Quarter 2005/06

Report of the Head of Corporate Policy
Purpose of the Report

1 The purpose of this report is to provide a first quarter performance update (2005/06) for Best Value Performance Indicators and other measures relevant to Building a Strong Economy.

Building a Strong Economy

2. There are only 2 indicators to report this quarter that are aligned to Building a Strong Economy. The Chief Economic Development Officer Society (CEDOS) indicators are subject to revision as the pilot is presently being evaluated. Once this process is complete any necessary revisions will be made and appropriate indicators will be collected and reported on a regular basis.

3. Of particular note

  • Jobs supported through local grants and incentives, including performance from CDDC and Durham County Council - Performance for this indicator is not presently on track to achieve its annual target of 1500. It should however be noted that the scheme has changed as a result of a Price Waterhouse Cooper report and now has less in the way of tangible marketable incentives. This and the current economic climate has contributed to this performance. The scheme is to be reviewed in October 2005.
  • BV100 - Number of days of temporary traffic controls or road closure on traffic sensitive roads caused by road works per km of traffic sensitive road - this previously top quartile indicator has not achieved its zero target. This has arisen due to works on the A167 with the Chilton Bypass and the new Park and Ride facility at Sniperly.
