Monday 12 June 2006

Meeting: Economy Scrutiny Sub-Committee (County Hall, Durham - Committee Room 1a - 12/06/2006 10:00:00 AM)

                  Item: A10 Work Programme

Scrutiny Sub-Committee for Building a Strong Economy
12th June 2006

Work Programme
Report of Head of Overview and Scrutiny

Purpose of the Report

1 To give consideration to the Work Programme for the Sub-Committee.

Background

2 Under the new Constitution, the Sub-Committee, following consultation with the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the main Committee, sets its work programme.

3 The work programme provides the opportunity to plan the work load of the Sub-Committee. This, however, needs to be continually reviewed but provides a guide in terms of Forward Planning and Project Management.

4. The tourism project has been completed and the report is under consideration on this agenda.

5. On 20th June, the Overview and Scrutiny Committee members will be giving consideration to the main project for investigation this year for each Sub-Committee. A reserve project will also be chosen. The service priorities and priorities for improvement will be considered. Once an area for investigation has been determined, it will then be possible to give further thought to the precise terms of reference for the project.

6. The Sub-Committee has reviewed the Council’s approach to the Strategic Alliance. Following a report to Cabinet prompted by the Sub-Committee, the future of the Strategic Alliance for both building services and civil engineering is being carefully considered. At the moment, there is no need for a further review in relation to this project.

Recommendation

7. You are recommended to note the current position about the work programme.
