Purpose of Report 1. To receive a presentation from the Chief Executive of the County Durham Tourism Partnership (CDTP), Melanie Sensicle, on the role, aims and objectives of the CDTP.
Background 2. In April 2006 responsibility for leading tourism in the county was placed with the County Durham Tourism Partnership. Melanie Sensicle was appointed to the post of Chief Executive for the partnership in July 2006.
3. Information on the County Durham Tourism Partnership is attached.
This covers information on:-
- What is the County Durham Tourism Partnership?
- Its role, aims and objectives,
- What is Destination Management?
- Who is involved in the governance arrangements?
- Who are the funding partners?
- What are the next steps?
4. Members will recall the two working groups that looked at “A review of tourism in County Durham - Wish You Were Here” and “An investigation into Access to the countryside in County Durham - Open for Business” which have recently reported to Cabinet (July 2006) making a number of important recommendations that impact directly on the work of the County Durham Tourism Partnership.
Recommendation 5. The Economy Scrutiny Sub-Committee is asked to thank Melanie Senscile for her presentation.
6. The Economy Scrutiny Sub-Committee is asked to invite Melanie back in six months time to receive a progress report on the County Durham Tourism Partnership; this report to include a response to the recommendations in the “Wish You were Here” and “Open for Business” scrutiny reports as appropriate.
