Report of Head of Overview and Scrutiny


Purpose of Report


1. To explain the Terms of Reference of this Sub-Committee.

Background

2. All local authorities now have detailed Constitutions which are public documents explaining how they operate.

3. The Council is required under the Constitution to appoint a Scrutiny Sub-Committee for Looking After the Environment. The formal terms of reference of the Sub-Committee are attached to this report to assist Members at the start of this new committee year.

Looking After the Environment Scrutiny Sub-Committee

Terms of reference

To fulfil the Overview and Scrutiny role in relation to:

1. Revitalisation, conservation and protection of the County's settlements, countryside and historic features.
2. Managing waste and resources sustainably, reducing pollution and adapting to climate change.
3. Providing an integrated, effective and safe transport system in support of access for all.
4. Relevant plans and strategies relating to the Sub-Committee's area of responsibility.
