Health Scrutiny Sub-Committee

29 March 2003

Centre for Public Scrutiny - Practitioners’ Forum

Report of Head of Overview and Scrutiny
Purpose of Report

1. To provide information about the first meeting of the Scrutiny Practitioners’ Forum.

Background

2. The Department of Health has provided £2.25 million to the Centre for Public Scrutiny to assist with the development of Health Scrutiny in the country.

3. A Forum has been set up to consider how this money can best be utilised to assist Health Scrutiny. The north east area is represented by Tim Gilling, an officer from Middlesbrough Council. A copy of the notes of the first meeting are attached*. The debate about how the money should be used is at an early stage, but we are anxious to use the contact with Tim Gilling to ensure that the north east, and Durham County in particular, see some practical benefit from this funding.

* FOR THE NOTES PLEASE REFER TO HARD COPIES HELD IN THE CORPORATE SERVICES DEPARTMENT OR THE COUNTY RECORD OFFICE

Recommendation

4. You are asked to note this information.
