Health Scrutiny Sub-Committee

29th March 2004

Consultation - Closure of GP Sessions at Quarrington Hill Community Centre

Report of Head of Overview and Scrutiny
Purpose of Report

1. To report the outcome of a consultation exercise undertaken by the Durham and Chester-le-Street PCT about the proposed closure of GP sessions at Quarrington Hill Community Centre.

Background

2. The Durham and Chester-le-Street PCT carried out a consultation exercise following a request received by Dr. Woods and Partners to close their once-weekly branch surgery at Quarrington Hill. The surgery used a room at the Community Centre. Over time, the doctors felt that this was now no longer appropriate.

3. On behalf of the Sub-Committee, reservations were expressed about this proposal which appeared to be less convenient for patients. After a lengthy consultation debate, the Primary Care Trust had now indicated that they have agreed to this closure. The main grounds for agreement were related to clinical standards for patients which could no longer be fulfilled in the premises at the Community Centre.

Recommendation

4. You are recommended to note this information.
