Health Scrutiny Sub-Committee 29 March 2004 Development of Adult Mental Health Services in the North of Durham

Report of Head of Overview and Scrutiny

Purpose of Report

1. To provide the opportunity for the Sub-Committee to participate in the formal consultation process about the development of adult mental health services in the north of Durham.

Background

2. The Sub-Committee has had a presentation from Sandy Taylor about the changes proposed in the provision of adult mental health services in the north of Durham. Members of the Committee have also received a copy of the consultation document.

3. The proposals involve the future of the County Hospital in Durham and the Allensford Ward at Shotley Bridge. The general approach is to introduce much needed improvement in this important service.

4. This is an opportunity for members of the Sub-Committee to raise any issues about the proposals which generally appeared to be welcomed. It would be useful for the Sub-Committee to have any feedback about the views of the public and patients expressed so far about this proposal.

5. You are asked to consider whether you wish to express any views about these proposals.
