Purpose of Report
1. To explain a current consultation exercise being undertaken by the Tees and North East Yorkshire Health Trust.
Background
2. The Sub-Committee will be receiving a presentation about proposed changes in Mental Health Services which will mainly affect people in the southern part of Easington. The consultation refers to the package of proposals as the ‘Advance’ project.
3. The basic proposals which affect Mental Health Services in County Durham are changes in:-
- Hospital based services for adults
- Services for older people
- Rehabilitation recovery services for adults
- Specialist forensic services.
4. The aim is to improve local services and reduce the need for hospital based services.
5. The implications of the proposals include a new facility to replace St. Luke’s Hospital in Middlesbrough and a new unit in Hartlepool.
6. A Joint Scrutiny Committee must be set up for these proposals which cover a number of Scrutiny areas. Councillors Priestley, Gray and Burnip are representing this Sub-Committee on the Joint Committee.
7. The presentation to this Sub-Committee provides the opportunity for all members to be aware of the proposals and to comment.
