Health Scrutiny Sub-Committee

11 July 2005

Training Issues
Report of Head of Overview and Scrutiny

Purpose of Report

1. To raise the issue of training for Members of the Health Scrutiny Sub-Committee.

Background

2. Following the County Council’s election and a number of new nominations from District Councils, there is a need to consider further training for members of the Sub-Committee.

3. The Centre for Public Scrutiny is encouraging Health Scrutiny Sub- Committees to continue to develop the Health Scrutiny function. As part of funding provided to Centre for Public Scrutiny by Central Government, a number of training sessions can be provided using an outside facilitator. Following negotiations with the IDEA and the Centre for Public Scrutiny, we have been allocated a number of sessions with Feisal Jassat from Kirklees MBC. Feisal helped us with a training session in March. He is able to provide advice about good practice nationally in relation to Health Scrutiny.

4. It is proposed that, as part of a development programme, a session should be provided specifically for members who are new to the Health Scrutiny Sub-Committee.

5. A training programme involving Feisal Jassat will be devised in conjunction with your Chairman and Vice Chairmen and will be notified to you in due course.

Recommendation

6. You are asked to note this report.
