Chief Executive’s Report to the National Health Service
Report of the Head of Overview and Scrutiny
Purpose of Report
1. To explain the Chief Executive’s report to the National Health Service and some information about the County Durham Health Trusts.
Background
2. The Acting NHS Chief Executive has produced his Annual Report. This provides some information about the financial situation of each of the Health Trusts in the country.
3. As far as County Durham is concerned, the attached Appendix explains the provisional out-turn position for each of the Health Trusts with which the Sub-Committee deals on a regular basis.
4. Perhaps of note is the position of the Sedgefield Primary Care Trust which was in deficit by approximately £3.7 million and also the Durham and Chester-le-Street Primary Care Trust which had a deficit of about £2.9 million. The Derwentside Primary Care Trust had a deficit of about £900,000 and the Easington and Dales Trusts had small surpluses.
5. The Durham and Darlington Acute Trust, the former County Durham and Darlington Priority Services Trust and the former Tees and North East Yorkshire Trust also had small surpluses.
6. Overall, the County Durham and Tees Valley health economy (All NHS Trusts and the Strategic Health Authority) achieved financial balance.
7. This information may be of assistance in considering issues relating to Health Services in County Durham.
