Report of the Head of Overview and Scrutiny


Purpose

1. To agree a work programme for the JHOSC for the period 2007 /08.

Information

2. The JHOSC held a half day event with the NHS family on 21 May 2007. The aim of the half day was to assist the committee develop a work programme for the next 12 months and beyond.

3. A long list of issues was identified (see appendix 1).
From this list it is suggested that the following issues become the main focus for the JHOSC over the next 12 months:

Policy/Strategic Priorities
· Action on Health Inequalities -Special meeting to be convened · Reconfiguration of Health and Hospital Services - The Five Year Plan ( Primary ,Secondary ,Tertiary Care) , to include workforce issues -Special meeting to be convened · NHS Foundation Trust - Consultation on the TEWPS NHST application

· Oral Health Services / Access to Dental Services
(Special meeting to be convened - December 07)
· Urgent Care/Overview of the White Paper
(1 October 2007)

· Development of a COMPACT (Protocol) between JHOSC, the NHS family and the LINk.
(1 October 2007)

· Adult Mental Health Strategy
(7 January 2008)

· Response to the NHS Health Care Commission Annual Health Report
(7 April 2008)
Service Improvement Priorities
· Hospital Acquired Infection (Implementation of the Hygiene Code)
(1 October 2007)

· Bowel Screening Programme/Update on National Pilot and local implementation.
(Special meeting to be convened - December 07)

· Mental Health Services for Older People (to include services modelling)
(7 January 2008)

· Termination of Pregnancy services
(2 July 2007)
· Modernisation of Ambulance Services (review of community paramedics and Ambulance stations)
(7 January 2008)

· Child Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)(Minding the Gap)

(7January 2008)
4. In order to deliver the work programme arrangements will have to be made to hold “special meetings” on particular subjects.

Recommendation

3. Members are asked to agree the work programme for 2007 /2008.
