1. Under the County Council’s Constitution, District Council representatives elect a Vice Chair to the Joint Health Scrutiny Committee to represent District Council interests.
Background
2. Since the formation of the Joint Health Scrutiny Committee in June 2003 the District Councils have elected a Vice Chair of this Committee. To date the following District Councils have elected a Vice Chair:-
2003 City of Durham Council
2004 Sedgefield Borough Council
2005 Teesdale District Council
2006 Chester le Street District Council
2007 Derwentside District Council
Wear Valley and Easington Districts have not yet elected a representative to the District Vice Chair role. The County Council have appointed Councillors Jean Chaplow and Councillor Richard Burnip as the County Councils Chair and Vice Chair respectively. Councillor Richard Burnip represents the Easington locality and it is therefore suggested that the Vice Chair role should be offered to the representatives of Wear Valley District Council.
Recommendation
3. That the role of District Council Vice Chair be offered to the representatives of Wear Valley District Council.
