Final Reports from Overview and Scrutiny Working Groups

Report of Feisal Jassat , Head of Overview and Scrutiny



Purpose of the Report

1. To present the final report from each of the six (6) Overview and Scrutiny working groups that looked at the County Councils service improvement priorities namely:

· Alcohol and Drug Misuse amongst young people;
· Investing in our Community Buildings;
· Improving the health of vulnerable people with a focus on Domestic Violence;
· Footways in better condition;
· Reducing the level of Worklessness (employability)
· Better Key Stage 4 Results (GCSE) 2. To seek approval from the Overview and Scrutiny Committee (OSC) for each report and the recommendations.

3. To invite Chairs of respective Overview and Scrutiny sub committees and the Chairs of working groups (as appropriate) to report to Cabinet seeking agreement and endorsement for the recommendations.

Information


4. The six (6) Overview and Scrutiny working groups met over a seven month period - August (2006) and February (2007).

5. Evidence was taken from a range of public, private and voluntary and community organisations.

6. The reports present information gathered from the scrutiny exercise together with an analysis of the issues.

7. The reports make a number of recommendations informed by the evidence.

Recommendation

8. That the Overview and Scrutiny Committee extend their thanks to the Chairs and Vice Chairs of the working groups for the hard work gone into this exercise.

9. That the Overview and Scrutiny Committee approve the recommendations from each working group.

10. That the respective Chairs of Overview and Scrutiny sub committees be invited (with the Chair of the OSC and Chair of the working group, as appropriate) to present their report to Cabinet seeking agreement and endorsement for the recommendations.

11. That Cabinet is asked to respond to each (agreed) recommendation with an action plan identifying how the recommendation will be implemented.

12. That the Overview and Scrutiny Committee receives information, within six (6) months of a Cabinet decision, on progress toward implementing the recommendation.
