Minutes:
The Overview and Scrutiny Officer referred Members to the recent prominent articles and news stories relating to the remit of the Safer and Stronger Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee (for copy see file of minutes).
The articles included: “Police forces unite for new Operation Sentinel against organised crime”, noting this was joint operation between Durham Constabulary, Northumbria Police and Cleveland Police in tackling a range of offences including burglary, cybercrime and fraud – linking to the item on Organised Crime; and “A fifth of road fatalities involve a speeding driver”, noting that between 2014 and 2018, the group also said out of 31,801 casualties, which include deaths, more than 2,300 instances involved a speeding vehicle, or a vehicle travelling too fast for the road conditions – linking to the items relating to performance reporting and Overview and Scrutiny Review updates.
