Minutes:
The Mayor conveyed what an honour it was to be the youngest person elected to the prestigious position of Mayor of Durham since 1602. She thanked Councillor Lucy Hovvels, Deputy Mayor, Dr Bill Moir and Councillor Laing as Consorts and the Mayor’s Bodyguard for their support in undertaking the duties to maintain the long standing links with the people and organisations within the City.
The Mayor announced that her chosen charity during her term of office would be the Cheesy Waffles project which supports young people in Durham City to achieve their potential. She referred to the contribution young people make to the City of Durham and invited 2 Cadets from the Durham City Air Squadron 234 to accompany the Mayor on ceremonial occasions.
The Mayor was honoured to accept the position of Worshipful Mayor of Durham and looked forward to working with all Charter Trustees, the Deputy Mayor and Mayor’s Bodyguard in the forthcoming year.
