Proposed Appointment of Temporary Chief Executive for the Office of the Durham Police, Crime and Victims' Commissioner

Minutes:

The Panel considered a report of the Head of Legal and Democratic Services which provided information on the process to be undertaken to hold a confirmation hearing for the post of Temporary Chief Executive and also considered a report from the Acting Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner for the proposed candidate for the post of temporary Chief Executive for the Acting Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner for Durham (for copy see file of minutes).

The Governance Solicitor presented the report and advised the Panel on the procedure for the confirmation hearing.

Mr Steve White, Acting Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner (PCVC) for Durham informed the Panel about the procedure and process undertaken for the appointment process to the post of Temporary Chief Executive and recommended that Mrs Sharon Caddell be appointed to the post.

The Panel then questioned Mrs Caddell around the following issues:

·        Her main areas of expertise for the role of Temporary Chief Executive;

·        How she would ensure a constructive relationship between the Acting Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner and the Panel was maintained;

·        Who she regarded as key stakeholders and examples of working with a range of organisations, partnerships and agencies, and

·        With current financial pressures, how she would forge relationships with other organisations and how she would engage with hard to reach groups.

Mrs Caddell provided the Panel with comprehensive responses to all questions asked. The Panel thanked Mr White and Mrs Caddell for their attendance and informed them they would be notified of the Panel’s decision in due course.
