Consideration of an Application to be Licensed as a Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Driver

Minutes:

The Chair welcomed the Applicant to the meeting and introductions took place.

The Sub-Committee considered the report of the Corporate Director of Regeneration and Local Services that asked Members to consider the suitability of the Applicant to be licensed as a Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Driver (for copy of report, see file of Minutes).

The Licensing Enforcement Officer presented the report and Members and the Applicant were given the opportunity to ask questions of the Officer.

A representative from Durham Constabulary was in attendance to provide Members with background information in respect of the matters detailed in the report. Members and the Applicant were given the opportunity to ask questions of the Officer.

The Applicant was invited to address the Sub-Committee and responded to questions from Members and Officers.

After all parties had been given the opportunity of making a closing statement, the Applicant was advised that Members of the Sub-Committee would retire to deliberate the application in private and he would be notified of their decision later that day.

The Sub-Committee retired to deliberate the application in private at 2.20 pm.

Resolved: That the application for a Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Driver Licence be refused as the Applicant was not considered to be a fit and proper person.
