Consideration of the Ongoing Suitability of a Private Hire Driver

Minutes:

The Chair welcomed the Licence Holder to the meeting and introductions were made.

The Sub-Committee considered the report of the Corporate Director of Neighbourhoods and Climate Change to determine the ongoing suitability of the Licence Holder to continue to be licensed as a Private Hire Driver (for copy of report, see file of minutes).

The Licensing Enforcement Officer presented the report. Members, Officers and the Licence Holder were given the opportunity to ask questions of the Officer.

The Chair then asked the complainants to join the meeting who responded to questions. The complainants then left the meeting and took no further part in the hearing.

The Licence Holder was invited to address the Sub-Committee and responded to questions from Members and Officers. The Licence Holder provided members with a character reference and a letter from Durham Constabulary, the Licensing Enforcement Officer verified the character reference.

After summing up, the Sub-Committee retired to deliberate the application in private at 2.10 pm. After re-convening at 2.20pm the Chair delivered the Sub-Committee’s decision.

Resolved: That the Licence Holder’s Private Hire Driver’s Licence be suspended for 3 months but this be suspended for a 12-month period.
