The Chair formally reported the deaths of Sir Paul Nicholson former High Sheriff of Durham and Lord-Lieutenant of County Durham from 1997 to 2013.  Sir Paul was greatly admired and respected throughout the county. Sonny Douthwaite, former Wear Valley District Councillor, Durham County Councillor and Honorary Alderman. Sonny served for a total of 25 years on both Councils; and Lance Brown, former Chester-le-Street District Councillor and Honorary Alderman. Lance served on the District Council from 1999 to 2009.

Members stood for a moments silence out of respect to Sir Paul, Sonny and Lance.
