Blessed Thomas Plumtree Memorial

We the undersigned petition the Council to Erect a memorial in Durham Market Place in honour of Blessed Thomas Plumtree

Blessed Thomas Plumtree was a Catholic Priest who spread the Faith across Durham and the North East during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. For remaining steadfast to the Catholic Faith, Blessed Thomas Plumtree was hung, drawn and quartered in Durham Market Place on 4th January, 1570. Whilst there are memorials to other Catholic martyrs elsewhere across the North East and due to the prestige of this great Priest and the prominent site of his execution, it is appropriate that a memorial is erected in Durham Market Place in honour of Blessed Thomas Plumtree.
