Complete Durham City Northern Bypass

We the undersigned petition the Council to complete the Durham City Northern Bypass, as promised when local communities of Newton Hall, Framwellgate Moor, Pity Me and Brasside, approved plans for the development of the Arnison Centre / Rosemount scheme. County Durham has changed, coal, steel, ship building all gone. No longer do residents live and work in the local community, most residents live in former communities that had industry, but now have no choice but travel for employment. County Durham though served by the A1(M), getting to this road from the West of the county means a trip through the city centre if you live in mid west Durham. The A1(M) has links to the A693, A182, A690, A688, A177, A689, A167, A68. However the A691 has no direct link. The A691 would have had this link by way of, The Witton Gilbert Bypass, Witton Gilbert Bypass to Durham City Northern Bypass Corridor of Interest and competed Durham City Northern Bypass. The communities are already affected by an increase of traffic due to the Arnison Ce

For many years after the Arnison Centre was completed, where ASDA is now, was a sign that used to explain about the development. Stage 1 of the Durham City Northern Bypass was built and for a period sign posted as a route to the A1(M) from the Pity Me roundabout.
However anyone following these signs, met with no Stage 2 link. Originally the bypass was to utilise the Belmont / Brasside Viaduct built around 1857 and instead the plans adopted for the Newton Cap Viaduct in Bishop Aukland as part of the A689 improvements.
