Improve Bus Services to Support Work, Health Services and Education
Many people from rural areas across County Durham have been
faced with significant problems due to the cut in bus services.
Some bus routes have been cancelled within the most rural areas of
County Durham and residents are now having to find alternative ways
of travelling to work, health appointments and education and, in
some cases, people have lost their jobs due to not being able to
get there on time. This is happening in many areas where there are
high levels of disadvantaged and low waged families.
Every person should be able to easily access vital services in
order to meet their basic needs. Public transport plays an
important part in ensuring this therefore any subsidies to the
council should be utilised effectively to ensure that the most
rural areas of County Durham have key services to support residents
in accessing work, health appointments and education.
